Following two weeks of playing in torrential conditions it was with excitement Shire Hall came out to play rugby with the weather calm and the sun shining. Reading III were the visitors and Shire were keen to play some expansive rugby which had been limited in recent weeks
A bonus point win was always the target and this was achieved within 15 minutes. Tom Jarret scored his debut try for the club within a minute of kick off following strong running from Ollie Horman-Green who was felled just short of the line. This was followed up by a brace from try-machine (or as some call him ‘try-hogger’) Matt Margot and a debut score in the corner for Dominic Boakes.
A further four scores were achieved before half time with the pattern of the game following a similar theme. Kick offs were returned with interest (namely by Shire Hall’s very own ‘giraffe’ Olly Jarrett), the forwards made big yardage sucking in defenders and the backs executed out wide. Matt Margot completed his hat-trick on 20 minutes, Steph Margot added a brace and Rhys Stewart scored out wide to add to his 6 conversion. The half time score was 52-0 and the message was to go out and do more of the same.
A number of changes were made at half time, but Shire’s dominance continued. Further tries followed from both Will Jellicoe (another debut try), Luke Jellicoe (who finally managed to get past the opposition 15), Tom Gough (who was instrumental in releasing the back line all game), Ollie H-G and seconds for both Dom Boakes and Rhys Stewart (who took his personal points haul to 30).
The final score was 90 – 0 and marks Shire’s hall 6th game unbeaten. Olly Jarrett was named Man of the Match with his running generating more meters made than many teams this week will have made in total. Luke Jellicoe was named DOTD as his profligacy left another potential score or two on the field.
Slough II come to the Berkshire County Sports ground next week and another bonus point will be targeted to keep Shire hall in the race at the top of the table.
